LEGISLATIVE On the 4th, Meurin fails to win the seat in the first round, Bord in ambush

Without much surprise, Pierre Meurin (National Rally, 48.69%) and Arnaud Bord (New Popular Front, 27.28%) will face off once again, extending the match of the previous legislative elections. This first round, marked by its intensity, marks the end of a first chapter of the campaign in the fourth constituency where the two candidates competed relentlessly. The evening of June 30, full of twists and turns, suggests a second phase of debates and confrontations that will be just as thrilling, if not more so…

We take the same and we start again! To know the outcome of the early legislative elections in the fourth constituency, we had to be patient this Sunday evening. The election night began with Nadia El Okki (Ensemble) who, from the first counts at the central office of the Alès City Hall, rose to second place, just behind Pierre Meurin, in the lead from the first trends at 7:15 p.m., as announced. Then, as the results from the many polling stations in Alès arrived drop by drop at the central office, the situation became tense. Arnaud Bord finally took second place, as also announced.

Pierre Meurin re-elected for a time

The election night continues with Pierre Meurin, surrounded by his close friends, who clearly cannot sit still. Phone calls, incessant discussions, back and forth between the outside and the inside. The outgoing MP of the National Rally does not fear a victory because it was obvious to everyone. The question was to fulfill the objective announced throughout his campaign: to win in the first round and avoid a second round against Arnaud Bord. Speaking to Objectif Gard, he savors and even admits to having “narrowly avoided election in the first round” and makes himself the favorite for the second round. But at that moment, he would not have believed it better.

Around 9:30 p.m., as the second round, a reminder of the 2022 legislative elections, clearly looms, an announcement is made. Coming in third place ahead of Pierre Martin, candidate Nadia El Okki herself declares: “I have results, Pierre (Meurin, Editor’s note) goes to 50% and some change.” Arnaud Bord, at our side while waiting for his intervention in the special legislative broadcast of the Club d’Objective Gard, hears the news and tenses up. At this precise moment, the centralized voting office closes its doors, sowing total incomprehension. And for good reason. Results were still awaited for the constituency. It’s chaos. Pierre Meurin, far from celebrating the news, remains cautious. Once again, his intuition did not deceive him.

The second round Meurin – Bord finally announced

Finally, Arnaud Bord celebrates, alongside Cathy Chaulet, his faithful substitute, the mayor of Cendras, Sylvain André, and Ghislain Chassary, mayor of Rousson, who came to support him. With a final score of 48.69%, the outgoing MP came close to victory in the first round, but this remains insufficient. Arnaud Bord is therefore preparing for an intense and promising week of campaigning, affirming that it is time to “go into battle” and of “set the record straight”. He declares : “Still standing, we will continue the fight. And it is precisely because it seems impossible that we will do it. From tomorrow, we will be on the ground with strength, conviction and determination.”

Third with 11.09% of the votes (registered), Nadia El Okki will not be able to run in the second round and form a triangular. The voters of the Ensemble pour la République movement will then play an important role, as will those of Pierre Meurin, Les Républicains candidate and municipal elected official, who obtained 6.10%. These votes could go to one of the two finalists. It will be interesting to follow, in the days to come, the voting recommendations, if any, from Mayor Max Roustan and his first deputy Christophe Rivenq, although they will not necessarily determine the final results. At the bottom of the ranking, Jérôme Garcia finished fifth with 1.47%. Starting tomorrow, Pierre Meurin and Arnaud Bord will return to the field, each with clear objectives: for Meurin, it is a question of continuing the mandate started in 2022, while for Bord, the challenge is to swing the constituency to the left . The stakes, in both cases, are high.
