Three qualified but two remain in the running for the second round on Sunday July 7 in the 3e constituency of Vienne. Gisèle Jean, mayor of Queaux, various left, invested by the New Popular Front, decided to withdraw for the second round as soon as the results were announced on Sunday evening, to block the extreme right.

The second round will determine whether the call from outgoing MP Pascal Lecamp (MoDem Ensemble) to form a republican front with the voices of the left will be heard by the voters of the New Popular Front. They would in fact have to build a solid dike, as the Lepenist-Bardellist candidate Éric Soulat has largely come out on top in this vast rural constituency of 111 communes spread from Châtelleraudais to Civraisien, from the Mélusin country to Montmorillonnais.

With 40.82%, he is ten points ahead of the outgoing MP Pascal Lecamp (Ensemble) who achieved 30.18% of the votes, far ahead of Gisèle Jean (NFP) at 26.73%.

RN wins more than 12,000 votes

The good participation of voters at 69.96% is reflected in 50,665 people who went to the polls. That is 14,000 more than in the first round of legislative elections two years ago. The increased mobilization and citizen upsurge will have benefited the RN regional councilor based in Archigny, in addition to the votes recovered from Reconquête or Debout La France voters, parties absent in the constituency. With 19,887 votes to his name, he gains more than 12,000 votes compared to 2022 (7,697 votes).

Pascal Lecamp almost doubles his number of votes (14,704 against 7,637), but not as much as his opponent in 2022, whom he will meet in the second round on July 7.

As for Gisèle Jean, with 13,020 ballots, she did better than her predecessor from Nupes, Jason Valente (7,585 votes), then candidate for the Union of the Left.

The RN is strengthening in all municipalities, and not just in the villages. At the European elections on June 9, he was already in the lead in 109 of the 111 municipalities in the territory.

The RN vote predominates in Chauvigny at 37.27% (18.37% in 2022) with almost 200 votes more than Pascal Lecamp. The sub-prefecture of Montmorillon also shows a very high score for the extreme right (36.50%), but very close with Pascal Lecamp (35.28%). Lussac-les-Châteaux consolidates the Le Pen vote (41.72%). In L’Isle-Jourdain, from the 4e position in 2022 (16.02%), the RN takes the lead (37.12%).

Exceptions

In Civray, Pascal Lecamp sees the far right gaining points in the town of which he was mayor, but retains control (40.16% against 35.49%). Two years ago, the RN only made 14.86%.

Lusignan, a town close to the Poitevin conurbation, remains faithful to a left-wing vote as in 2022. It gives first place to the NFP Gisèle Jean (33.98%), also closely followed by the RN (32.97%) and Pascal Lecamp (30.97%). In Queaux, Gisèle Jean retains the support of her fellow citizens with 52.17% of the votes, but still with pressure from the RN (30.43%).

As expected, the two other candidates Soizic Jouan (Workers’ Struggle with 1.41%) and Tatiana Gouverneur (Equinoxe, 0.86%) were not likely to change the trend.
