The work started more than eighteen months ago is (almost) finished, after a big boost in the last few days to finalize the last details, such as some sidewalks, paving stones or tree towers. The residents of the Vaugueux district, in the hypercenter of Caen, saw their neighborhood transformed for this festival organized by the Caen City Hall (Calvados), which took the opportunity to offer cider from the City to the many participants, thanks to all the restaurants in the neighborhood.
“Before I had the impression that we went to a restaurant, we ate there, and we left, testifies a passerby. There, we want to hang out. It’s nice. We’ll come back.”
Finally accessible for people with reduced mobility
Emmanuel, in a wheelchair, told us: “ It’s much better now, especially for PRMs, we can finally move everywhere, testifies Emmanuel, in a wheelchair. Before it was almost impossible. I used to come here when I was little. Now it has the feel of a village square with benches around the trees, it’s nice.. »
Overall, the restaurateurs seem satisfied, especially after having made so much effort since the beginning of the work. Those of the rue de la Porte-aux-Bergers particularly welcome the unity found in the neighborhood, mainly thanks to the paving stones.

The entrance to the district, at the bottom of Rue Graindorge, has been particularly well designed with stairs that provide an easy link to the port. The Mayor and the officials who were walking around declared themselves very satisfied with this new impetus for the district, a real little village in Caen.
