The Sémaphore cinema welcomes filmmaker Bertrand Schmit on Thursday July 4 to screen his film, “Gare in Perpignan, a fragment of democratic fatigue”. This documentary was born from his desire to film the preparations for citizen lists in Perpignan during the municipal elections two years ago. “His treatment is a source of observations and useful reflections with regard to the Legislative elections. Our session is proposed between the two rounds of the legislative elections, precisely to (re)pose democratic issues”, says Daniel Vidal, co-director of the Sémaphore.
The film focuses on all these non-party, citizen, alternative lists which have flourished for a long time in a representative system in crisis, in Perpignan. “Love of the city, interest in the political history of Perpignan, civic necessity… I don’t know! I needed to shoot this documentary on the last municipal elections”, explains Bertrand Schmit, producer of the film. The documentary was edited in collaboration with Alexandre Hallier. He supports: “It takes place in Perpignan but it has a universal dimension. The strength of this documentary is to make us think as a spectator, without telling us what to think.”
