The Tour returns to France. After three days in Italy, including a long 230-kilometre flat stage on Monday won by Biniam Girmay, the riders will continue to ride 70 kilometres on Italian soil, from Pinerolo, before returning to France.
The border will be crossed at the Col de Montgenèvre, the second difficulty of the day (km 71). The peloton will then have to climb the Col du Galibier (23 km at 5.1%, 2,642 m) to reach Valloire.
The favourites of the Grande Boucle should explain themselves on this fourth stage, while the yellow jersey Richard Carapaz, the former general leader Tadej Pogacar, the white jersey Remco Evenepoel and the double title holder Jonas Vingegaard are all in the same time.

The challenge
Even if the “appetizers” of the first weekend have whetted the appetite, the menu of this fourth stage is proving to be copious. Beware of “indigestion” on the severe slopes of Sestriere (39.9 km at 3.7%, 2,035 m) and the Galibier pass.

There is no doubt that a new top 10 of the general classification will emerge in Valloire… The yellow jersey, for its part, could see a fourth owner in as many days.
