The ambient pessimism that reigned after Joseph Oughourlian’s speech almost a month ago seems to be ancient history for RC Lens.
Indeed, at the beginning of June there was talk of a massive downsizing on the Blood and Gold side, as well as a low-cost transfer window. But there is sometimes a more or less large gap between interpretation and reality.
Proof of this gap, Will Still agreed to join RC Lens. And for once, if he had not obtained guarantees at the level of the Lensois workforce, he probably would not have agreed to join the Artesian club.
Better, RC Lens would intend to keep Elye Wahi. At least that’s what insider Mohamed Toubache-Ter suggests. The idea of the Lensois board would be to associate him with a talented attacker.
But why is this good news, when Wahi, who cost the tidy sum of 30 million euros excluding bonuses last summer, was in difficulty during the season which has just passed? The answer is simple: RC Lens seems financially solid enough to keep Elye Wahi, and believes in the latter’s abilities to have a big 2024-2025 season under the leadership of Will Still.
