Transforming a sheepfold into a gîte: the successful bet of Élodie and Anthony Gary

The Gîte du Pescadou, in Tournon-d’Agenais, has opened its doors to welcome holidaymakers or language trainees in a rural setting, at the foot of the Tournon fortified town.

Élodie and Anthony Gary, owners of the place, built their house on this family land where a sheepfold had stood since the 1930s. A building that has not been used for a long time but which they had the idea of renovating and transforming into a gîte. A clear parallel with the professional reconversion of Élodie, a Spanish teacher, who offers lessons at her home for all levels and all audiences. Participants can therefore stay on site and choose their learning time as they wish.

Building of character

Built on two floors, this sheepfold still housed Lucifer, the little train that the people of Tournon were lucky enough to take to tour Lake Pescadou. Indeed, grandparents Didier and Annick Gary, then owners of the restaurant “Les Voyageurs”, located nearby, opened the Pescadou campsite in 1974 with a swimming pool and catering outlet. A site that has remained dormant since its closure and which therefore required a lot of work to restore it. The building is, today, a 70 m² gîte designed to accommodate 4 people, benefiting from a 4-star Furnished Tourism classification awarded by the Ministry of Tourism and accepting Holiday Checks.

To make it easier for visitors to understand, instructions for use are also provided in English and Spanish and a range of leaflets on the sites and other particularities of the area are made available (gourmet markets, producers, events, etc.).
The charm of the old stones and the modernity of its interior design combine perfectly, while the exterior terraces offer additional space. The walking trails and the nearby lake, not forgetting the boat available, are additional assets, not to mention the magnificent view of Tournon, one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France.
