Jazz à Vienne, Tuesday July 2: The Funk armada arrives in Vienna with New Power Generation celebrating Prince and the Earth Wind and Fire Experience!

For all Funk lovers this evening will be a treat with two legendary bands on the menu: Celebrating Prince with the New Power Generation will open the show with resolutely Funk, Rock and Soul reinterpretations of the master Prince, then will come the Earth Wind and Fire Experience which will cover the global hits of this cult group from the history of Funk and Soul! “Kiss”, “Diamonds And Pearls”, “Let’s Go Crazy”, “Cream”, “Sexy MF”, “Sign Of The Times”, “Pop Life”, “1999”, “Gett Off”… who better than former members of the New Power Generation, aka The NPG, to continue to bring to life and evolve on stage the great funk, soul, hip-hop, pop and rock classics of the great and late Prince, who created this exceptional group at the dawn of the 1990s, twelve years after revealing himself to the world? “Nobody” is obviously the right answer. A legendary group of the 70s, Earth Wind & Fire wore out the soles of at least two generations of funkateers with a burst of hits that fused soul, jazz, funk, pop and African rhythms in an unprecedented way, producing sophisticated and universal music.

Original member of the group, Al McKay shared this global success until 1981.

A native of New Orleans, he had made his debut as a guitarist for the Ike & Tina Turner Revue. Eclectic, he then accompanied Sammy Davis Jr. as Isaac Hayes.

In 1973, he joined Maurice White, Philip Bailey and Verdine White in Chicago to found Earth Wind & Fire and forge the famous multi-platinum sound.

In the 90s, he formed The Al McKay All Stars. The guitarist has legitimately resurrected some gems for two decades, such as Boogie Wonderland, Fantasy, SingaSong and September.
