A memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the development of a real estate and tourism project on the Atalayoun site, with an estimated total cost of more than 800 MDH, was recently signed between the company Marchica Med, a subsidiary of the Agency for the development of the Marchica Lagoon site, and HB Holding NV, a holding company specializing in real estate investment and new technologies.

This strategic partnership aims to transform the city of Atalayoun, one of the cities included in the program of the development and development project of the Marchica Lagoon site, in the province of Nador, into a tourist destination of choice combining modernity and respect for the environment, while promoting the natural and cultural heritage of the region, indicates a press release from Marchica Med.

The project provides, according to the same source, the construction of high-quality infrastructure in front of the existing marina, including a 4-star hotel of around 130 keys, premium residences and villas, as well as landscaping respecting the principles of sustainability and preservation of the local ecosystem.

For a total investment estimated at more than 800 million dirhams (MDH), this project aims to create around a hundred long-term employment positions and thus constitutes an opportunity to promote the socio-economic development of the entire region, underlines- your.

“The signing of this memorandum of understanding marks an important shift in the strategy for implementing the planning and development project for the Marchica lagoon site which will accelerate the pace of completion of this strategic project launched by the King in 2008 and which aims to realize the royal vision of promoting progress and sustainable development of the entire Oriental region, while ensuring the conditions of a dignified life for its citizens”, underlined the general director of the Agency for the development of the Marchica Lagoon site and CEO of Marchica Med, Loubna Boutaleb, quoted in the press release.

“The development of partnerships and the creation of significant synergies with the private sector should, in fact, allow, in the future, to breathe new life into socio-economic and tourist development in the region,” she noted, saying that “this partnership with HB Holding NV will make it possible to create an exemplary, modern and environmentally friendly project with significant benefits for the province of Nador and the entire region.”

For their part, Henri Broen, CEO, and Solayman Bouharrou, associated with HB Holding, cited in the same press release, considered that “Our expertise in real estate and tourism development, combined with Marchica Med’s vision of sustainable development, will allow us to carry out a project that meets the quality standards desired and required for the development of the Marchica lagoon and which will be a reference in terms of responsible tourism and sustainable development on the scale of the Kingdom of Morocco and Nador in particular.”

The city of Atalayoun, the first born of the pearls of Marchica, is a residential and tourist resort spread over 154 ha and offering a unique environment located between sea and land on the peninsula of the lagoon of the same name.

The Marchica Med company had started the development of the city since the launch of the project in 2008. This city has since included a marina with 140 moorings, an academy and a golf course, a wide choice of residences as well as various catering and entertainment facilities. The city also includes a 5* hotel which opened its doors in 2019, and which is the first of the 4 hotels planned in the long term in the city.

This new partnership is part of the implementation of Marchica Med’s development strategy having validated, during its last Board of Directors, a medium-term action plan aimed at initiating a new phase in the management of the project and the acceleration of the development of the city of Atalayoun through a more active involvement of private investment in the realization of the different components of the project.
