Three minors steal a car in Deurne and cause a serious accident: “The camera footage shows their mode of action”

A spectacular accident was caused by three young people aged 13, 15 and 16 in Deurne, at the wheel of a car. They were seriously injured.

The incident took place on Sunday. In the early afternoon, three young people burst into a private car park near Deurne, a municipality in the province of Antwerp. They were clearly looking for a vehicle and ended up getting into one of them. On the car park’s surveillance cameras, the young people could be seen driving at high speed before crashing violently into a pole.

The (surveillance) camera footage shows their mode of action. They made a hole in the fence by cutting and pulling it. This allowed them to access the car park without being seen by the security system.“, wonders Koen Van Den Bergh, COO of the Beerens group, owner of the car park and the vehicle, questioned by our colleagues at VTM.

He still doesn’t understand how the young people were able to get hold of the car: “The keys to the vehicle are still with us in the office. They have been registered in our system and put in the safe.“, assures Koen Van Den Bergh. He suspects that the young people had a second key.

The three young occupants of the vehicle were seriously injured as a result of the accident. One of them was even between life and death until recently.

This afternoon, investigators were still at the scene to determine the exact reasons for the incident.
