They say that doubleheaders are meant to be split. That’s what happened Saturday afternoon in Matane, between Edmundston’s Frontière FM and Allées du Boulevard.

The young Matanese team narrowly missed out on sweeping the gap. They were leading 5-4 with two outs in 7e inning in the first game when an infield error allowed what became the winning run.

Patrick Morin, in relief, deserves the victory while Louis-Félix Noël, who came in 7e for the save, is the losing pitcher. Pier-Alex Pelletier was solid during the first six innings with only four hits allowed and around ten batters struck out.

Second part

Veteran Junior Coulombe then spaced five hits well to lead Allées du Boulavard to a 5-1 victory. Raphaël Bérubé and Louis-Félix Noël have two hits each at the expense of losing pitcher Seth Querze, author of seven strikeouts.

Matane (4-8) remains at 7e rank in the Puribec League standings, one match behind Edmundston (5-7).

On Sunday, weather permitting, Rivière-du-Loup will visit Matane at 2 p.m. Philippe Bernier will be the starting pitcher for the locals.
