Romain Bardet’s big dates on the Tour de France after his double blow in Rimini

This June 29, 2024 will remain an important date in Romain Bardet’s career. In addition to winning the first stage of this 2024 Tour de France, his fourth success in the most beautiful race in the world, the Auvergnat seized the leader’s yellow jersey for the first time in his career. A look back at his previous exploits on the Grande Boucle.

July 23, 2015

His first victory in the Tour de France. After having given up on the general classification from the first Pyrenean stages, the Brivadois, for his third participation in the Tour de France (15th in 2013, 6th in 2014), decides to change his objective and switch to the victories of steps.

He came very close to success during the 12th stage between Lannemezan and the Plateau de Beille (3rd), or again two days later, between Rodez and Mende (again 3rd). Before hitting the mark on July 23, 2015 during the 18th stage, contested between Gap and Saint-Jean-de Maurienne.

The Brivadois goes on the attack more than 40 kilometers from the finish, in the last kilometers of the ascent of the Col du Glandon, before swallowing the Montvernier bends, climbed for the first time on the Tour de France, and to stand alone in the streets of Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne.

Tour de France: victory and first yellow jersey for Romain Bardet, in Rimini, at the cost of an enormous feat

July 22, 2016

Almost a year to the day after his first success on the Tour, Romain Bardet is back! And once again in the Alps, which are definitely going well for him! The Auvergnat pulls himself out with his teammate Mikaël Cherel on the… descent of Domancy, about ten kilometers from the end of this 19th stage, between Albertville and Saint-Gervais-Mont-Blanc.

In pouring rain that made the road slippery, the Brivadois, carried by the public, managed to catch up with the Portuguese, Rui Costa, the last survivor of the morning breakaway, before dropping him three kilometers from the finish, on the final climb towards Bettex and winning alone.

His first victory of this year 2016, the first of a Frenchman on this Tour de France, which allows him to move up to second place overall, 4’11” behind Christopher Froome, two days from the finish on the Champs Élysées.

Perhaps his greatest victory on the Tour de France. A tough success for the Auvergnat, who tames the main favourites for the final victory on the final ramp of this 12th stage between Pau and Peyragudes. A final “kick in the ass” of 400 metres, on the track of the Peyragudes altiport with gradients of 16%.

If Fabio Aru lights the first fuse 300 meters from the line, it is Romain Bardet who shows himself the strongest by countering the Italian and managing to maintain his effort to cross the line with two seconds ahead of Rigoberto Uran and Fabio Aru and 22 on Christopher Froome, 7th in this stage.

A third place that Romain Bardet had saved by a second the day before, during the Marseille time trial that he had finished exhausted. The Auvergnat finished 2’20” behind Christopher Froome and 1’26” behind the Colombian Rigoberto Uran.

Romain Bardet once again climbs onto the legendary podium of the Tour de France on the Champs Élysées. Not for a place among the top three overall this time, but as the best climber of the Tour de France.
