Just two years after the last legislative electionsnews early elections will take place these Sundays June 30 and July 7, 2024 in the Calvadoslike everywhere else in France.
These elections follow the dissolution of the National Assembly decided by President Emmanuel Macron, on June 9, on the evening of the European elections which saw the National Rally finish in first place (31.5%). The Senate is not affected by this dissolution.

Elect the 577 deputies who propose and vote on laws

The legislative elections aim to elect the 577 deputies who will sit in the National Assembly. Their role : vote on lawsdeposit proposed laws, question the government or sign a motion of censure. The future distribution will have its importance in choosing the future Prime Minister.

Each constituency must represent a comparable number of inhabitants in order to respect the principle of equality before the vote.

How to get to the second round?

To be elected in the first roundthe candidate must obtain more than 50% of the votes cast and “a number of votes at least equal to 25% of the number of registered voters”. A second round is organized if no candidate is elected in the first round. Only the leading candidates and those “having obtained a number of votes at least equal to 12.5% ​​of the number of registered voters » participate. In the second round, the candidate who obtains the greatest number of votes is elected.

39 candidates spread across 6 constituencies in Calvados

In Calvados, there are six constituencies. In total, these are 39 candidates who are applying to become one of the six deputies of the department, ranging from five candidates on the 1time constituency (Caen sector) to eight on the 6th (Vire-Evrecy).

On the 1time constituencythe outgoing MP Fabrice Le Vigoureux (presidential majority) has chosen not to run again to leave the field open to the mayor of Caen Joël Bruneau (Miscellaneous right) who has announced his candidacy. “He is best placed to ensure that the worst can be countered here and to defend the interests of our territory,” says the outgoing MP. Beaten by only 200 votes in 2022, Emma Fourreau (New Popular Front), who has just been elected as a Member of the European Parliament, is a candidate again in 2024. The RN, Lutte Ouvrière and Reconquête are also presenting a candidate.

Five outgoing deputies are representing themselves

In the 2nd constituency (Caen sector), the socialist Arthur Delaporte (New Popular Front) is a candidate to succeed him, two years after being elected for the first time. He will be opposed to five other candidates (Various Right, Lutte Ouvrière, RN, Debout la France and Presidential Majority).

In the 3rd district (Lisieux-Falaise), the outgoing deputy Jérémie Patrier-Leitus (Presidential Majority) is also a candidate for his succession. Five other candidates have been announced. The same goes for Christophe Blanchet (MoDem) on the 4th district (Pont-l’Evêque-Ouistreham) and Bertrand Bouyx (Presidential majority) on the 5th district (Bayeux). These two outgoing deputies will face six candidates each.

Finally, in the 6th district (Vire-Evrecy), former Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne will try again to be elected deputy. This is the constituency where there are the most candidates (8).
