The experiment proved positive: the Lyon Metropolis is continuing the “4-day” week system

After having conducted the experiment of the “4-day” week since September 1, 2023, the Lyon Metropolis evaluated this organization after six months with a large panel of its agents.

Whether they are experimenters, managers or direct colleagues of the experimenters, nearly 93% of agents were in favor of the perpetuation of the system from September 1, 2024.

This generalization was just voted on during the last metropolitan council.

“The survey carried out proves that this new work organization has improved the quality of personal and professional life of our agents. I am also proud that this system has made it possible to promote greater professional equality between men and women, by giving part-time agents – 90% of whom are women – in our community the opportunity to return to full-time and see a return. their salary and their retirement contribution at 100%,” says Zémorda Khelifi, vice-president of the Lyon Metropolis responsible for Human Resources.

In total, nearly 1,100 agents, including 300 experimental agents, were contacted for this internal investigation and which made it possible to identify several lessons.

At first glance, it appeared that “the “4-day” week has no impact on the continuity and quality of public service. »

Better still, according to this survey, it appears that the system contributes to the attractiveness of the Metropolis. The managers of experimental collectives indicate that the experiment was mentioned in 72% of the recruitment interviews conducted in recent months and 11% specify that the experiment really weighed in the candidates’ decision to accept the position.

On the other hand, this organization of working time is considered attractive for part-time employees and very appreciated by former part-time employees who are experimenting with the 4-day week, has benefits on the quality of life. 87.2% of experimenters indicate a beneficial effect on their well-being, 43% estimate their stress level to be lower and nearly 60% note a decrease in their fatigue level.

The “4-day” week will be eligible for all full-time volunteer agents (who work 1,607 hours per year). Nearly 5,500 agents can thus apply for the system subject to the agreement of their manager.
