The end of the party on Rue des Martyrs? The famous Parisian drag cabaret is in difficulty At Michou’s, the mecca of the nightlife in Montmartre, may not reopen in September, after 68 years of activity and a possible last evening on Sunday June 29, its manager told AFP on Saturday. The commercial court must rule on July 16 on whether or not to continue the activity.

Michou wanted the cabaret to stop when he died

While in his memoirs published in 2017, Michou indicated that he wanted to be buried in a blue coffin and that the cabaret in his name stopped when he died, Catherine Jacquart, his niece, had decided to fight and maintain the activity, with the blessing of Michettes.

The establishment reopened its doors in September 2020. “Michou was joy, celebration, always quality, never vulgarity. We want to work in the same way,” Catherine Jacquart then underlined. Today, Covid and the lack of reservations despite the Olympics have been put forward to explain the situation. Past strikes and demonstrations as well as parking problems would not have helped.

Michou, famous Parisian cabaret director, died on Sunday January 26, 2020. The man in blue, icon of the nightlife world, died at the age of 88. Real name Michel Catty, Michou opened his famous cabaret in 1956 which welcomed every day for more than 60 years celebrities and strangers who came to dine in front of the spectacle of transformist artists covering the songs of the great stars of the time.

Chez Michou employs 23 people, including artists and front of house, kitchen and reception staff.
