“We expect a loss of around 20 to 30 tonnes for this annual collection”announces Francis Herbert, the president of the Food Bank, on France Bleu Périgord. The association mobilizes 800 volunteers in orange vests this Friday 22 and this Saturday 23 November in Dordogne in 80 stores, but this year they will not be in Leclerc stores.
A collection postponed due to the actions of farmers
The Leclerc stores indicate that they have decided by mutual agreement to postpone the Food Bank collection in their establishments, because the supply chain of their departments was disrupted by the movement of farmers and in particular by the blocking of Rural Coordination in Gironde. Although the blockages were lifted this Thursday evening, this does not allow Leclerc stores to welcome volunteers in good conditions.
The date of the new collection in the eight Leclerc stores in Dordogne has not yet been set.
A collection which constitutes 15 to 20% of annual contributions
This annual collection from the Food Bank, prepared for three months, allows us to collect between 15 and 20% of annual contributions of the association which redistributes these food donations to 60 aid associations in the department. This year, it is possible to make donations online via the “monpaniersolidaire.org” website, accessible from the beginning of the month until mid-December. These donations are tax-exempt.
Volunteers rely on store customers for food donations: canned goods, pasta, hygiene products, baby products, etc.
