Two hours after the final whistle, Romain Ntamack did not really realize what he and his teammates had just accomplished. But he already felt the sensation of duty accomplished.
What is your feeling about the season you have just experienced?
It’s unreal, historic, I don’t know if we have enough superlatives to describe what we managed to do this year but it’s magical, exceptional. It is also a reward for this group who have worked hard for years, who have worked hard this year. We used almost 60 players, that’s not insignificant and every time a guy entered the field or replaced someone he was as good, if not better. So it pushed us all up and today is the right reward.

Personally, you experienced a special season between an injury, a long rehabilitation and then an exceptional end…
Yes it was very special but I’m rather proud of my season because it started badly. The rehabilitation was rather long and complicated. I gave myself the means to come back at the best of times, catch up and apply for the final phases of the Champions Cup and Top 14, so I am proud. This rewards all the work done.

Do you realize that you have done something exceptional again?
I don’t know if, at the time, we realize it. The scenario is so improbable for a final. I think we made the task rather easy for ourselves by putting the right ingredients. Up front, we played a stratospheric match, had an outstanding discipline and we were clinical in everything we could do so I think it’s deserved.

Can you recount the 4th down when you throw Thomas Ramos deep?
I hear him behind me, he calls me so I try to slip him as best I can. But I didn’t really know if he was on the right or the left… Afterwards, I hit a “grazing” so I told myself that at worst we would put pressure on them. But Thomas had followed well so it was a good try. I think all the tries were great, we scored them using lots of different styles of play. And this desire until the end, it shows the greed of this group who wants to give everything and not throw into touch. Even if we didn’t fear anything at the end but we wanted to please everyone (smile).

This is the second double in three years. In your opinion, your generation wants to mark the history of the Stadium?
It’s not over but I think we’ve already made history. The second double in three years, with the difficulty we know of playing on both counts whether in the Champions Cup or the Top 14. It’s great because this team gives itself the means to get far all the time, questions yourself all the time, pushes yourself to the top all the time during training, small games… We pull ourselves up in a great state of mind. Today (Friday), it is the reward for a whole group of 60 players but also for the club which is doing everything possible to ensure that we are in the best conditions.

Will you still be hungry in September?
I think so. But we’re going to start by digesting it well. Because now we have to savor and celebrate this, we’ll look ahead to next season when necessary. But now, we’re going to take the time to realize because what we’re doing is something exceptional and historic. We’re going to savor this all together.
