Former international scrum-half Sébastien Tillous-Borde, who was in charge of Rouen (relegated to the Nationale) last season after spending two seasons with CS Bourgoin-Jallieu, has been appointed head coach of Montauban, which saved its place in Pro D2 at the last minute at the beginning of June, the Tarn-et-Garonne club announced on Monday.

Tillous-Borde (39 years old, 19 caps between 2008 and 2015), “will be accompanied by Johan Snyman in charge of the forwards, Andries Hough in charge of the three-quarters and Cameron Ruiz, physical trainer (who already accompanied him at CSBJ, editor’s note)”, specifies USM Sapiac in a press release.

A narrow hold

After a playing career that took him from Biarritz to Castres then to Toulon, where he won three European Cups and a Brennus, the Béarnais retrained as a coach, first in charge of the RCT back lines before managing Bourgoin, then Rouen last season.

“The club would like to thank Pierre-Philippe Lafond, David Byrnes, David Aucagne, Julien Gauthier and Nicolas Szezur for their professionalism and commitment to their missions, particularly in ensuring the club’s survival at the end of last season,” the press release added.

The Tarn-et-Garonne club finished the regular season of Pro D2 in 15th and penultimate place, ahead of Rouen, relegated to the Nationale. On June 2 in the promotion play-off, it kept its place in Pro D2 by narrowly winning 20 to 19 against Narbonne.
