2024 legislative elections: a quadrangular for the second round in the 5th constituency of Saône-et-Loire?

Dramatic turn of events in the 5th constituency of Saône-et-Loire! The four candidates qualified for the second roundArnaud Sanvert (RN), Fatima Kourriche (NFP), Louis Margueritte (Renaissance) and Gilles Platret (various right), are maintained all four in the second round. Attention is focused mainly on Louis Margueritte (Renaissance) and Gilles Platret (various right), who came third and fourth respectively in the first round.

For Louis Margueritte, it is not up to him to withdraw first

The Renaissance candidate explains that he has received since Sunday evening “friendly pressure” to encourage him to withdraw. He claims to refuse to withdraw, already because he believes that it is up to Gilles Platret to withdraw first: “Republican custom dictates that you withdraw when you are last, I would have done so without hesitation if I had come fourth”he says.

The second reason for its continuation is the candidacy of Fatima Kouriche, for the New Popular Front: “Even if we were to withdraw, which I do not wish to do, our electorate will not turn to La France Insoumise, it will turn elsewhere or nowhere”he explains. “And so I believe that Ms. Kouriche, who came second, two points ahead of me, is not at all in a position to win, in terms of positioning.” He therefore believes he can bring together voters from the left and right.

Gilles Platret’s supporters call for the RN candidate to withdraw

In a press release, Gilles Platret reaffirms his candidacy in the second round of the legislative elections : “I am what I am, I have not changed my mind during all these years. I say and do what I consider to be right and good for France and for my fellow citizens. It is this compass that I propose you keep by electing me on Sunday as your deputy in the National Assembly.”he says. “In the Chamber, I will vote in my soul and conscience for what seems right to me, I will oppose in my soul and conscience what seems unjust to me for our country and for the French. For France, choose freedom and independence!” As a reminder, Gilles Platret was narrowly qualified for the second roundwithin 4 voices.

Another press release, this time from Young people with Platret who call the RN candidate, Arnaud Sanvert, to retire in favor of Gilles Platret : “If Mr. Sanvert obtained a comfortable score yesterday solely thanks to his label, it is his duty to be at least a little clear-sighted about himself, he must step aside and let Gilles Platret represent our ideas and our constituency in the National Assembly. The rhetorical incompetence that he displays during the debates suggests the worst in the face of a virulent far left in the Assembly.”

The same goes for Louis Margueritte who, according to them, has “no chance of winning by holding on” : “He must therefore allow a real debate to be re-established between the right and the left (he supported Mr. Macron who bet everything on the disappearance of this divide) and for that withdraw his candidacy, otherwise, he will be responsible for the catastrophe which risks happening.”
