Twenty-eight departments are always placed on alert by Météo-France, according to its bulletin published this Saturday at 4 p.m. This orange “storms” vigilance concerns Ain, Allier, Ardennes, Aube, Aveyron, Cantal, Cher, Côte-d’Or, Doubs, Jura, Loire, Lot , Marne, Haute-Marne, Meurthe-et-Moselle, Meuse, Moselle, Nièvre, Puy-de-Dôme, Bas-Rhin, Haut-Rhin, Rhône, Haute-Saône, Saône-et-Loire, Tarn, Vosges, Yonne and the Territoire de Belfort. On Sunday, vigilance will only concern 14 departments.

The most violent storms are expected in the Northeast late in the day or late in the evening. Météo-France forecasts very high intensities of rain, a risk of large hail and occasional gusts between 100 and 120 km/h.

And “heavy rainstorm episode” cross this saturday “most of the country”underlines Météo-France in its forecast bulletin. “Only the regions from Brittany to Nord-Pas-de-Calais, as well as Corsica, remain spared from this bad weather, and retain calmer but cloudy weather.“, the organization specifies. In the afternoon and evening on Saturday, “a stormy burst will circulate from the southwest to the northeast of the country”warns Météo-France on its website in its orange alert sheet “thunderstorms”.

“Special vigilance”

For the departments concerned by this vigilance, the meteorological service warns against “strong summer stormy situation which requires particular vigilance given the geographical extent and intensity of the forecast phenomena”. “In addition to intense electrical activity, these storms can cause violent gusts of wind, hail and heavy accumulations of rain in a short time“, warns Météo-France.

In Strasbourg, ahead of the possible arrival of storms, the town hall announced the closure from 5 p.m. of six municipal parks and nine cemeteries from the city. “Their reopening will depend on changes in weather conditions”, noted the municipality in a press release. In Doubs, the Rencontres et Racines music festival, which takes place from Friday to Sunday in Audincourt, announced on its Facebook page that it was not going to take “the risk of opening the festival” this Saturday due to weather conditions, after welcoming nearly 14,000 festival-goers Friday.

According to Météo-France, “in Aquitaine, we observed frequent storms” Saturday, with “strong electrical activity, locally heavy rain intensities, sometimes 30 to 50 mm” et “hail in places”. Sunday will see the “return of calmer weather, but cool for the season”with some “stormy residues” in the morning “from the Grand-Est to Limousin and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes”and a “persistent risk of storms in Rhône-Alpes” in the afternoon, Météo-France specifies in its latest forecast bulletin.
