Rabat – The Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohammed Abdeljalil, took part, Thursday by videoconference, in the work of the 9th Session of the Advisory Council of the United Nations Road Safety Fund (UNRSF), held in Geneva, Switzerland.

Prior to this meeting, Mr. Abdeljalil held an audience by videoconference with the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for Road Safety, Jean Todt, on the opportunity for Morocco to chair the UNRSF Advisory Council, as well as to have the agreement in principle to co-sign the letters to be sent to member states and companies to contribute and make donations to the UNRSF, in addition to a possible financial contribution from Morocco to this fund, indicates a press release from the Ministry of Transport and Logistics in a press release.

Furthermore, it was agreed to take the opportunity of the 4th Global Road Safety Conference to organize a pre-event dedicated to raising funds and pledges for UNRSF.

During the meeting of the Advisory Committee, the minister stressed that this meeting comes less than 8 months before the 4th World Ministerial Conference on Road Safety which will be organized in Marrakech from February 18 to 20, 2025, in collaboration with the World Organization of Health, we specify from the same source.

Mr. Abdeljalil stressed the importance of this conference which constitutes a reference event in terms of road safety and will invite all stakeholders at the global level to discuss actions likely to improve road safety in the world and save more human lives.

The government official also indicated that the organization of this 4th conference in Morocco constitutes an important opportunity to place road safety among the priorities of the sustainable development agenda and to come out with recommendations and serious commitments from the various speakers, who will be translated into the Marrakech declaration, adds the press release.

And added that the said conference will focus on engagement as a vector for mobilizing all stakeholders to improve road safety at the global level, noting that throughout the period of the conference, participants will have the opportunity to attend pre-events, a ministerial round table, 6 plenary sessions and 24 parallel sessions.

This conference will also host an innovation competition and a road safety film festival, the themes of which will focus on political commitment, financing of road safety, interministerial coordination, private sector engagement through the reporting and implementation of road safety indicators, in addition to road safety as a catalyst for achieving sustainable development goals, underlines Mr. Abdeljalil in the press release.

Established in 2018, the UNRSF is a form of global partnership that aims to support road safety projects in developing countries with the goal of halving the number of road deaths by 2030.

As an Innovative Fund, UNRSF mobilizes funding from private, public and individual donors and redirects it to finance high-impact, scalable and sustainable road safety projects around the world.
