The famous cellist Ophélie Gaillard is relieved! The French-Swiss artist has found his historic cello, reports “The Dauphiné Libéré”. Made in 1737 and estimated at 1.3 million euros, the instrument, as well as two bows worth 45,000 euros each, was stolen from him on September 25, from his home in Geneva. The musician then launched an appeal on social networks, relayed in the media, to find his precious cello.
After two months of investigation, the gendarmes carried out a vast operation in Saint-Julien-en-Genevois, allowing the instrument and bows to be recovered in perfect condition. Three suspects, aged 25 to 45, were arrested. One is accused of theft by climbing into a home, the others of receiving stolen goods. They were due to appear in court last Thursday.
Unsaleable and unique, this cello, loaned by a bank to the musician, is not her first misadventure. In 2018, he was robbed at knifepoint in front of Ophélie Gaillard’s former home, in Seine-Saint-Denis, before being found intact in a car.
