The beach weather for this weekend of June 29 and 30 in the Var and Bouches du Rhône – PACA region

This last weekend of June promises to be mixed in Provence and on the Côte d’Azur. If Saturday will be windy, Sunday will be a beautiful day to enjoy the beach. Be careful, because there are still plenty of jellyfish reported.

A very windy Saturday before the return of good weather on Sunday

Let’s be clear, this Saturday, the weather conditions are not the best for going to the beach: A strong south/southeast wind is hitting the Provençal coast. This wind coming from the south is loaded with dust from the Sahara and continues to dirty everything in its path during rare showers.

Gusts could reach 70/80 km/h on the coast or even 85 km/h on Etang de Berre. Despite this strong wind, curiously, all access to the massifs remains open in the region: It is green or yellow in the Bouches du Rhône and the Var (except Montagnette still closed following the 2022 fire).

Caution during beach activities. This south-easterly wind is relatively unusual, and could generate swell on certain beaches or carry swimmers and inflatable equipment out to sea on those exposed to the west. This is the case, for example, on certain beaches on the Brusc and Giens Peninsula sides.

Sunday return of good weather, with pleasant temperatures. More wind, more clouds and temperatures around 25 to 28°. Ideal for enjoying the beach!

Bathing water already reaching 23° in some areas

It has been hot this week and this has resulted in an increase in bathing water temperatures. The record is on the Sanary side, on Cousse Bay beach where the supervisors measured water at 23° this Saturday morning.

Elsewhere, and generally speaking, the water temperature varies between 20° for beaches exposed to the wind and in the coves and 22° on many beaches in the Var such as in Lavandou for example.

Numerous jellyfish reported along the entire coastline

It’s hard to find an area untouched by jellyfish this weekend.

From the Blue Coast to the Italian border, we have received reports in almost all sectors. The only good news is that their concentration seems to have diminished.

Because in the middle of the week, the yellow flag associated with the purple flag had been hoisted on many beaches because there were so many of them. It was becoming dangerous to swim there with a real risk of being bitten.

The latest reports indicate a diffuse presence of jellyfish, but in small quantities. In short, you can swim, but you have to remain vigilant.
