Costumes, sets, projectors… With the construction site which will begin in the fall of 2024 at the Saint-Pierre complex, in Saint-Pierre-de-Coutances (Manche), a major move awaits the Dodeka company. Since 2006, the latter has been installed in the Sous-les-pylones room. “We are happy to be able to see work here, because it was starting to become a bit dilapidated. We worked for a year with an architect to propose a project voted on by Coutances Mer et bocage two years ago. This project is to increase comfort for the public and for the artists. Dressing rooms will be built, brand new offices, a reception hall, a technical control room…” lists Vincent Poirier, the director of the artistic company.

During the work period, which will last at least for the duration of the 2024-2025 cultural season, Dodeka will be housed in the former Hortensias nursery school. “We are going to store all our decor and accessories there, and set up the offices of our two employees there. We will also use the motor skills room to do all our workshops, for adults and adolescents,” explains Vincent Poirier.
Residences put on hold
Another consequence of the complex’s reconversion: the cessation, for one year, of hosting professional companies in residence. “We won’t have enough equipment at Hortensias to be able to do it. But we will have time to prepare for next season! » specifies Vincent Poirier.
With this work, Vincent Poirier hopes that the Dodeka company will be able to obtain a permanent agreement to accommodate emerging companies from Normandy: “We have already been a welcoming place for ten years. We have requested an agreement with the region, but this agreement could only be allocated if the room becomes a little more structured. » Until then, the arrival of artists was either financed by Dodeka’s own funds or by grants granted on an ad hoc basis.

Before saying goodbye to Sous-les-pylones, the company will organize an end-of-season party on Wednesday July 10, 2024, from 7 p.m. The Poppers Frontale brass band will perform at 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. At 9:30 p.m., the Têtes de Mules company, from Ariège, will present its show Apocalypso.
