After the announcement of the 2023/2024 baccalaureate results, two students stood out in the Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region: Doha Hadi and Hiba Motassim, who obtained the best averages in the region, respectively 19.45 and 19.31. Le360 went to meet the second, a graduate of the public high school Prince Moulay Rachid in Chefchaouen, in the physical sciences stream, French option.

«I am the happiest person on Earth for making my parents proud, Alhamdoulilah“, first launched the young girl, giving free rein to her emotion, before revealing what she says is the secret of her excellent grades. “I acquired a solid foundation in scientific subjects from the common core, then choosing the mathematical sciences sector for the regional year helped me a lot“, she explains.

«Course summaries, explanatory videos on YouTube and repetitive practice of old tests are also a good way to prepare for exams», adds the one who, in addition to scientific subjects, admits a penchant for philosophy and especially appreciates working in a group in a café in the blue city of Chefchaouen.

This is not the first time that Hiba Motassim, 17 and a half years old, has excelled with her academic results. In June 2021, the young Chaounie had already recorded the best average in the Northern region in the patent exam, before doing it again in the regional exam last year, once again exceeding the average score of 19/20.

Now that her high school years are over, Hiba is already looking to the future, not without a few bouts of nostalgia: “These three years have been the most enriching of my life, and not only academically. I met wonderful people who gave me a lot».

Next step? Higher education, of course, but preferably in medicine, a discipline she has always been passionate about. When I imagine myself in my own office, then being in an operating room, a scalpel in my hand, my heart beats a thousand miles an hour. I can’t wait for that day“, she expresses. Because yes, Hiba’s ultimate dream is to become a neurosurgeon.

She would also see herself embracing the profession of…veterinarian. Amazing? Not so much, assures the person concerned. First of all, there is this common denominator between the two careers: the deep desire to help, care for and relieve the ills of the living. Then, you should know that Hiba literally lives surrounded by animals, between her six cats and her dog affectionately named Volcano, but also, less common, her goat Mimi and her newborn Sandy, who has just expanded the menagerie. Among the Motassim, we visibly appreciate animals.

And we appreciate good grades even more. Supervised by a lawyer father and a housewife mother, the family of four girls and a boy can boast of a brilliant academic career. Thus, the brother is a teacher, one of the sisters is an engineer and the other two are doctors, one of whom is based in Germany. And Hiba, the youngest of the quintet, is well on her way to following in their footsteps.I dread the moment when she will leave the family nest. I fear the void she will leave behind her.», admits her father, Abdallah, who is already worried about the path she will choose at the start of the school year.

In the meantime, the young high school graduate would like to think about her vacation. “I spend almost every summer in Oued Laou. It’s my little corner of paradise, it’s where I made my most beautiful memories», she confides with a blissful smile. But this summer, the waters of the Mediterranean will be waiting. Hiba will not be able to devote herself completely to her usual hobbies, including volleyball and swimming. Because there are applications to prepare and entrance exams to pass. But with such a flattering notebook, young Chaounie should have no trouble reaching this new level…
