Centraide Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean announces the injection of a record sum of $2,615,352 in social investments in 2023, distributed among a hundred community organizations in the region.

“Being able to increase our support for organizations in the region and seeing how the generosity of Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean has a real impact here, in the community, is truly an incomparable feeling. It reminds us why it is important to work together: to be able to always do more for our vulnerable and marginalized people,” said the chair of the board of directors of Centraide Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, Mélissa Bergeron, in a press release.

Organizations in the MRC Domaine-du-Roy benefited from funding totaling $282,699 and those in the MRC Lac-Saint-Jean-Est, $416,229. The MRC Maria-Chapdelaine benefits from a sum of $253,250, the MRC du Fjord-du-Saguenay, from $157,148, while the City of Saguenay pockets the largest amount, with $1,185,851.

Over the past five years, Centraide’s social investments have grown by 42%, or nearly $800,000. This result not only helps to better meet the needs of the community, but also to reduce the share of needs currently not covered by organizations.

Investing differently in the community

In addition to these social investments, over the past year, Centraide has coordinated the distribution of several in-kind donations, whether new or used, provided that they are in good condition and can be used in the activities and services offered by the recipient organizations. These donations include, for example, furniture, clothing and show tickets. In addition, Centraide also offers a support and assistance service for organizations with special needs, provides them with referrals for volunteer resources and acts as a link between businesses and organizations in the region for the organization of volunteer days. Centraide offers diversified support in financial, material and human resources in order to be present and aware of the realities and challenges of the community world.

The general director of Centraide Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, Martin St-Pierre, expects even more promising results for 2024.

“To follow up on the extraordinary record results of the 2023 campaign, social investments look just as promising for 2024 and will allow Centraide Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean to significantly increase its assistance. Once again, the great sensitivity and solidarity of the people of ICI make it possible to help those who need it most, with heart, in our community. »
