Several restaurants will be closed on the 1stis July. Not because of the public holiday, but rather because it falls on a Monday, a day when many businesses do not open.

The City of Saint-Bruno invites citizens to enjoy the festivities of the 1is July to eat in a Montarville restaurant.

“It’s important to support local purchasing. We do it throughout the year, but we find it essential to highlight it during major events like Canada Day,” confides the mayor, Ludovic Grisé Farand.

The owner of L’Étape says he will not open his doors on 1is July since the business is usually closed on Mondays. Opening would force his employees to work overtime, he confides. For the St-Bruno restaurant, normally, Monday is not a profitable day.

It will therefore not open its doors either due to Canada Day. La Tasse verte and Bistro Louis will also remain closed.

“From our past experiences, we have noticed that there is less traffic on those days,” said a manager of the Boswell brewery, which is closed on Mondays.

Expected traffic

Every year, the Roberval creamery notices some traffic during the festivities, but according to one of the managers, many customers come to enjoy ice cream, with or without festivities.

For Karine Duchesneau, owner of the Monsieur Hibou dairy, the day of the 1is July will be very busy, like every year.

More employees will be on site to serve customers and the owner is even closing later than regular hours. “We can be open until midnight, as long as there are people.”

What to do

The festivities of the 1is July begins at 11:30 a.m. with a parade of the Royal Canadian Legion in front of city hall, followed by a parade of vintage cars.

In the evening, a Star 80′ show will take place at 8:30 p.m. before fireworks at the Village Lake at 10 p.m.
