The 29-year-old woman has been missing for over a month in a forest area north of Dolbeau-Mistassini.

The search will be carried out by volunteers from the SARCAN Québec organization, an association of dog handlers trained in the search and rescue of missing persons.

It was Laurie Desbiens’ relatives who contacted the organization to ask for help.

Volunteers from across Quebec will be present Saturday and Sunday in the area where the young woman was last seen.

“We will have three dogs that are trained and several people on the ground who will do the search with the coordinator. We have people from Lanaudière, Lanoraie, Mauricie, Quebec who are coming down to search for Laurie Desbiens,” said Chantale Gagnon, a volunteer for the organization.

The searches that have been carried out to date, both by the Sûreté du Québec and by the family, have yielded no results.

The SARCAN Québec organization invites the population to participate during the weekend.

“We are asking people to go to the Le Copain restaurant in Dolbeau-Mistassini on Saturday morning at 6 a.m. If you can’t make it for both days, that’s okay. You can come for just one day too. We’ll take what you give us,” added Ms. Gagnon. “We hope with all our hearts that we can find Laurie this weekend.”

A fundraising campaign was also launched to help cover travel and accommodation costs for volunteers.
