80th Anniversary of the Liberation of Montpellier 2024: date, times, program, prices

In 2024, Montpellier celebrates the 80the anniversary of its Liberation on August 23, 1944.

The main highlight will take place on the weekend of August 31 and 1is September with a historical reconstruction, a popular ball at Peyrou and a parade on the Comédie.

In the program :

  • Guy de Montlaur Exhibitionfrom June 7 to 30, 2024 – Château de Castries, Wednesday to Sunday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Montpellier Archives: Highlights
    • #1Day1Resistant : every Wednesday from April to October 2024, a portrait of a resistance fighter is posted on the X account of the Montpellier Archives
    • Virtual exhibition “Montpellier, summer 1944” from July on the archives website
    • Exhibition Saturday September 21, 2024 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. as part of the European Heritage Days in the reading room of the Archives, Emile-Zola Media Library (3e floor)
  • Guided tour by reservation with the Tourist Office “MONTPELLIER, FROM OCCUPATION TO LIBERATION IN 1944”
    • Thursday August 22 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. / Saturday August 31 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. / Sunday 1is September from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. / Saturday September 14 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. / Sunday October 6 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. / Thursday October 17 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

    • 7:30 p.m. – introduction to swing dances (1 hour)
    • 20h30 : DJ set (30 min)
    • 21h – BIG BAND 1time part (45 min)
    • 9:45 p.m. – INTERMORT
    • 22h – Show SWING (15 min)
    • 22h15 – BIG BAND 2th part (45 min)
    • 11 p.m. – Reminder (2 pieces)
    • 23h15 – DJ set (45 min)
  • Sunday 1is September: commemorations (10 a.m.-3 p.m.)
    • Parade and raising of the colours
    • Parade on foot with the re-enactors
    • Ceremony on the Place de la Comédie.
