Guaranteeing the safety of residents on the roads and allowing them to travel in the best conditions: this is the challenge of the winter viability plan that the City of Cergy (Val-d'Oise) has just reactivated.

Operational until the end of March, the system is timely with the snowfall recorded this Thursday, November 21. In Cergy, a team of two agents is on call and nearly sixty agents can be mobilized depending on the alert levels. Two vehicles equipped with blades and salt spreaders and small tool carriers can also be called to the rescue to secure the 70 km of roads and 35 km of sidewalks over which the municipality watches.

In Cergy, ad hoc services provide salting, limited for environmental considerations, and snow removal from municipal roads, engineering structures and pedestrian squares located in the municipal territory outside the Grand Center (which falls under the agglomeration, editor's note) , public facilities (school groups, nurseries, gymnasiums, neighborhood centers and LCR), sidewalks in line with these facilities and finally dangerous areas (banks of the Oise and steeply sloping streets). So many interventions carried out in a concerted and preventive manner with those carried out by the Cergy- urban community and the Val-d'Oise Department.

“On the other hand, it is up to each resident (owner, tenant, merchant, business, etc.) to ensure the safety of passage on the sidewalk alongside their residence and this over a minimum width of 1.5 m. The cleared snow can be put in the gutter or stored in a pile on the sidewalk without hindering pedestrian traffic,” indicates the municipality. Failing this, the citizen may be held liable in the event of a fall in front of his or her home.

The winter viability plan is part of the Île-de- snow or ice plan. It is established and implemented under the direction of the Police Prefect, throughout the region. It aims to anticipate the arrival of a climatic disturbance, inform users, control the management of heavy goods vehicle traffic and coordinate assistance operations.
