Thibaut Baronian from Besançon finished the 90 km of Mont Blanc in second place behind the Russian Dmitri Mityaev. A performance for the race known as one of the toughest.

At 4:00 in the morning, the Besançon trail runner Thibaut Baronian, well known for his performances in high-level trail competitions, set off on the trail of the 90 km of Mont Blanc. Alongside well-known faces, such as the Russian Dmitri Mityaev, and the French Aurélien Dunand Pallaz, Théo Detienne, as well as Jean-Marie Thevenard.

Although he was announced as one of the favorites, the Bisontin confirmed this place by finishing second in this 2024 edition, behind Dmitri Mityaev. The Russian dominated the race from start to finish, widening the gap throughout the 90 km of Mont-Blanc. Despite complicated weather conditions with intense heat, he crossed the finish line in 10h44’14”. Thibaut arrived a few minutes later, with a time of 11h02’20”.

This competition is renowned as one of the toughest races. With its 92 km and 6,330 m of elevation gain, the 90 km of Mont-Blanc is considered one of the most technical trails in France. Although the route follows exclusively hiking trails, these are sometimes narrow and aerial. And what makes the race difficult is the fact that certain sections of the course take place entirely on snow, and the runners frequently move between 2000 m and 2500 m altitude, which requires a certain acclimatization.

The competition weekend continues with the Vertical Kilometer, the start of which was given at 5 p.m. Saturday June 29 will take place: the 23 km (departure at 8 a.m.), the 10 km (departure at 10:30 a.m.), the Mini-cross (departure at 2 p.m.) and the Star Duo (departure at 7:30 p.m.). Sunday June 30, the 42 km (start at 7:15 a.m.) and the Young race (departure at 10:30 a.m.).
