This is a $76.5 million project including 36 new spaces for seniors and 12 new spaces for people with special needs. The new project is linked to the CHSLD of Pabos where 62 places already exist. It also includes a new kitchen accommodating 99 people. New homes for seniors mean that each resident will have their own bedroom, bathroom and space.

According to the Prime Minister, new homes for seniors cost more than CHSLDs, but these are necessary investments for their well-being.

According to the CEO of the CISSS de la Gaspésie Martin Pelletier, the work includes disruption for CHSLD residents, but the project had been awaited since 2004. With the aging of the population this place had become more than necessary.

The work began on February 12, the company Concréa began the decontamination work of the Site which was formerly used by the company Gaspésia and which contained methane.

Unlike the Rivière au Fox seniors’ house which mainly includes wood as materials, the new project is mainly made of concrete. The construction is currently at the structure and formwork stage and the end of the work is scheduled for September 2025.

The building will also be equipped with BIM technology, which will ensure the building’s maintenance for the future on a 3D digital platform. One thing is certain, employees will have much more space to work than in CHSLDs.
