The UBB manager will therefore not be able to field Maxime Lucu and Maxime Lamothe in Vannes, both reservists of the XV of France. He did not hide his surprise to discover a new interpretation of the rule.
UBB will therefore play in Vannes Saturday without its two “reserves” from XV of France : Maxime Lamothe and Maxime Lucu. Many Bordelo-Béglais thought that they could appear on the scoresheet in Brittany. The general manager of UBB Yannick Bru did not hide his astonishment: “There is a rule and we stick to it. But on Wednesday, it seemed certain to us that they would play. I remind you that France plays on Friday evening against Argentina. And we were surprised to discover a new interpretation of the rule on Wednesday evening at 5 p.m. when the club teams were formed and all stakeholders had heard that the reserves would be allowed to play. This was the case in 2021 I believe.
I repeat we comply with the rule
Yannick Bru invokes the notion of “common sense”. “The two teams that could have been harmed are Toulon et Bayonne who face each other at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. I recognize it, it would not have been easy to bring in the players so early in good conditions. But these two clubs do not have any players concerned. So I find that the principle of inequity mentioned does not hold. Yes, I find that very surprising. But I repeat we comply with the rule.”
Besides Funny and Lamothe, the UBB will resume the competition in Vannes without Bielle-Biarrey, Gazzotti and Moefana which will be on the France-Argentina sheet. Yannick Bru will, however, be able to count on the released internationals: Bochaton, Matiu, Buros if his physical test is conclusive, and on Jalibert obviously not remembered by Fabien Galthié after his refusal to be a reservist for France-New Zealand. Damian Penaud he is absent for cause lung infection. This will be the first time that the Gironde club will face the Vannes club in its history. The Bordelais are currently second one point from Stade Toulousain.
