Chartres Cathedral, a great pilgrimage for the millennium of the crypt

The event will be followed around the world because this emblematic place in Chartres (Eure-et-Loir), listed as a UNESCO world heritage site, is already visited each year by hundreds of thousands of people, but for 2024 the millennium of the crypt will bring a whole new dimension.

The Notre-Dame de Chartres Cathedral is indeed preparing to experience exceptional moments and, as the diocese details on its website, for the opening of this jubilee year, from September 8, 2024 to August 15, 2025, A great diocesan pilgrimage is being prepared. Each diocesan is invited to join the pilgrimage at a particular stage of the day.

The full program for Sunday September 8, North Route

• 9:30 a.m.: launch mass in Jouy
• 10:30 a.m.: start of the march
• 12:30 p.m.: picnic at the Visitation
• 1:45 p.m.: departure for Saint-Pierre church

The South route program

• 10:30 a.m.: Launch mass at the Séminaire des Barbelés
• 11:30 a.m.: visit of the Seminar
• 12:30 p.m.: picnic at the Visitation
• 1:30 p.m.: departure to Saint-Pierre church

Note that the paths taken are pedestrianized.

From 11 a.m. mass celebrated by Mgr Philippe Christory, Bishop of Chartres, at the cathedral.

Gathering for the procession

• 2:30 p.m.: Saint-Pierre church – rosary meditation
• 3:15 p.m.: departure of the procession towards the cathedral through the city
• 4:30 p.m.: arrival at the cathedral – solemn vespers and benediction of the Blessed Sacrament
• 5:15 p.m.: friendly drink on the forecourt and discovery of the jubilee route.

Great diocesan pilgrimage Sunday September 8, 2024.
Northern route: trains so that drivers can reach Jouy and return to their car.
South route: Chartrains accompany the drivers to the Séminaire des Barbelé.
