1 – First round of legislative elections

The first round of early legislative elections will take place this weekend, three weeks after Emmanuel Macron’s announcement of the dissolution of the National Assembly. Saturday June 29, French Overseas residents living in Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, Saint-Barthélemy, Saint-Martin, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Guyana and French Polynesia will go to the polls. In mainland France, residents will vote for their future deputy on Sunday June 30.

According to the latest OpinonWay poll for CNews, Europe 1 and the JDD, the RN and its LR allies would collect 36% of voting intentions, the New Popular Front 28% and the presidential majority bloc 20%.

2 – Silent march in Nanterre in tribute to Nahel

A silent march will be organized this Saturday June 29 on the eve of the first round of the legislative elections at 2 p.m. avenue Pablo Picasso in Nanterre. This event takes place in tribute to Nahel, 17 years old, at the request of her mother Mounia Merzouk. Nahel’s death was caused by the shooting of a police officer after refusing to comply on June 27, 2023.

3 – Start of the Tour de France​

The 111th edition of the Tour de France will start on Saturday, June 29 from the city of Florence, Italy. This edition will conclude on July 21 on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice, after a journey of 3,498 kilometers.

The first stage will take place tomorrow and will connect Florence to Rimini (206 kilometers). On Sunday, the second stage will start in Cesenatico and finish 199 kilometers away, in Bologna. In 2022 and 2023, the Tour de France was won by the Dane Jonas Vingegaard.

4 – 78e Festival d’Avignon

The 78th Avignon Festival will begin this Saturday June 19 and end on July 21. This contemporary live performance festival will transform the city of Avignon for a month into a real theater city. At the opening of the Festival, Bergman’s funeral by Angélica Liddell will be performed in the courtyard of honor of the Palais des Papes. 219 performances will be given during this Festival.

5 – The Good News of the day

The Fête du cinéma is making its grand return. From June 30 to Wednesday July 3, 6,000 French movie theaters will welcome spectators at a price of 5 euros per screening. Several films are showing during this period such as Le Comte de Monte-Cristo, Vice-Versa 2 or The Hennedricks Family.
