In anticipation of the launch of the 2024 summer season, the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, which publishes the results of the bathing water and sand quality monitoring campaigns each year, has prepared tools enabling the public, as well as holidaymakers and local authorities, to take the necessary measures to improve the quality of bathing water in the short and medium term, particularly on beaches that have been declared non-compliant.

As part of monitoring the quality of bathing water for the 2024 summer season, the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development – ​​sustainable development sector – has set up three systems, including online consultation of bathing water reports. monitoring of the quality of bathing water and sand on the website https://labo.environnement.gov.ma; the publication of regular bulletins on the quality of bathing water on all beaches, prepared every 15 days and made available to beach managers via a digital platform so that they can display and publish them on the beaches to inform holidaymakers and take immediate action in the event of non-compliance; and finally, the “Iplages” application to inform the public in real time, in order to regularly communicate the results of monitoring and provide all useful information on the beaches.

According to the Sustainable Development Sector, the number of beaches monitored under this program increased from 79 in 2023 to 196 beaches according to the 2024 report. The results of the June 2024 monitoring campaigns showed that 198 beaches (97% supervised beaches) were compliant with standards, compared to only 5 non-compliant beaches and unsuitable for swimming.

The “Iplages” application is an innovative initiative that allows users to obtain real-time information on the quality of bathing water and sand on Moroccan beaches. As well as providing regular monitoring results, the app also offers practical advice to ensure a safe and enjoyable swimming experience. By integrating these new technologies, Morocco is taking a step forward towards protecting the environment and promoting sustainable tourism.
