How much does the Olympic torch relay cost in Meaux?

The Olympic torch relay should be a big celebration on Saturday, July 20, 2024, but a celebration that comes at a cost, and not an insignificant one.

In Seine-et-Marne, welcoming the Olympic flame costs 180,000 euros to the Department, which fully supports the reception of the flame. But the expenses do not stop there since the Departmental Council has decided to help the towns crossed by the flame to the tune of €10,000 each in order to finance the proposed activities.

A majority of events linked to the Olympic Games and the Olympic flame in Meaux

In Meaux, this welcome assistance does not cover all the costs of the day’s events and activities, as well as the security system and the cost of communication. “Between January and August 2024, the City of Meaux plans to invest 200 000 € on all events and activities related to the Olympic and Paralympic Games,” specifies the office of the mayor, Jean-François Copé.

The municipality received a total of 55,000 euros in grants : 10,000 euros from the Department, but also funding from the Regional Prefecture within the framework of the Urban Policy.

Outside of this budget, the city hall has also decided to decline some of its traditional activitiesaround the Olympic Games such as the Night Marches, the next of which will take place on Wednesday July 17 at 7 p.m., or the Saturdays in Chenonceau.

In order to successfully organize the activities around the Olympic flame, the City had to take the decision to cancel events such as Les Muzik’Elles which will ultimately not be held in September 2024 due to lack of budget.
