Arles: The most coveted of the Camargue races

In Arles, city of art and history, the first Monday of July is a unique and traditional moment. The great Camargue race of the Cocarde d’Or and its atypical day are awaited and represent one of the gatherings of people with bullfighting traditions. This race draws its appeal from a competition of raseteurs which can sometimes be fierce and fierce.

Joachim Cadenas is now one length behind the emblematic Christian Chomel, holder of the victory record.

Raseteur Joachim Cadenas has become a specialist, combining committed rasets, efficient ones and stylish ones, in order to promote the cocardiers. He equals a leading raseteur from the 1940s-1950s, Lucien Volle, with 7 victories, and is now one length behind the emblematic Christian Chomel, holder of the record for victories. Joachim Cadenas has five consecrations over the last five years, but each Cocarde d’Or reserves its share of surprises and emotion. Twenty-five raseteurs are authorized to participate, namely the first 20 of the Trophée des As, the first 3 of the Trophée de l’Avenir and the first 2 of the Trophée Honneur. Among them, Ziko Katif leader of the Trophée des As, but also Youssef Zekraoui and Jérémy Ciacchini. The latter have already won this title and have a technique and experience that could allow them to win a second Golden Cockade in their career.

Since 2006, the Charles Farine prize has rewarded the best cocardier of the day. The Guillierme and Fabre-Mailhan herds have each won 9. They are on the bill with their respective cocardier Saint-Roman and Artaban. Then, it is Orca de Lautier, Carassin de Cuillé, Angora d’Aubanel, Escapaïre de la Saliérenne, and Valento de Lagarde who will compete.

The meeting is at 5:30 p.m. in the Arlesian Roman amphitheater with folklore and tradition. May the best man win!
