On Friday June 28, three young people from the Vénissieux children’s municipal council encapsulated drawings representing their ideal college in the first wall of Katia-Kraftt College – from the name of the French volcanologist.

It was in fact on this day that the inaugural event took place in the presence of Michele Picardmayor of Vénissieux, Christian Duchêne, his counterpart from Saint-Fons, and Véronique Moreira, vice-president of the Métropole de Lyon in charge of education and colleges.

Katia-Krafft College: made of wood and straw

In any case, it is on the environmental level that the Katia-Krafft college tends to be ideal. The future establishment, the construction of which has started two months ago, is mainly designed in wood (structure and facade). It is insulated with straw and has several interior partitions with cladding. earthen.

The construction of this work, as well as the design, operation and maintenance for five years, were entrusted to OBM Constructions, a general timber construction company. It is also in the company’s factory in Chevilly (45), that the building is, for the most part, prefabricatedbefore being assembled on site.

Bio-sourced materials, solar panels and rainwater recovery

Beyond the use of biosourced materials, a low impact construction site charter was put in place in particular to limit the risks and nuisances towards local residents and the environmental impacts.

Emphasis is also placed on the renewable energies. The college will initially accommodate 250 m² of photovoltaic panels. The building is designed to accommodate the total solarization of the roof terraces, i.e. 1,400 m² of additional photovoltaic panels. THE rainwater will be collecteds for the use of the college toilets.

This project will be subject to High Environmental Quality (HQE) certification at an excellent level, verified at all stages of the operation by Certivéa.

730 students welcomed at the start of the 2025 school year

Beyond its ecological and architectural interest, this new establishment aims to respond to the increase in numbers “The colleges of Vénissieux and Saint-Fons are very busy, with an average of 110%”indicated Michèle Picard.

With a surface area of ​​7,000 m², this new establishment will accommodate 730 students from the two municipalities. “It is not a minimal college that will emerge from the ground, but an ambitious college”said the Vénissian mayor. 32 classroomsa large catering area, multi-purpose sports facilities and staff accommodation are planned. Eventually, the college will be served by the tram line T6.
