Rabat – The Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulema celebrates the 60th anniversary of the construction of the Great Mosque of Dakar, inaugurated on March 27, 1964 by the late HM King Hassan II and the former Senegalese President, Leopold Sédar Senghor.
The aim of this commemoration is the strengthening of spiritual and historical relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Senegal, indicated the Foundation in a press release, stressing that “the importance of this great event lies, not only in the preservation of the common memory of our two countries, but also constitutes an excellent opportunity to pay tribute to all our living forces who contributed to the building of this historical heritage”.
An official ceremony will commemorate this sixtieth anniversary on Friday within the Great Mosque of Dakar, adds the same source, noting that at the same time, an exhibition will be organized under the theme “Historical memory of Moroccan-Senegalese spiritual relations”. where written and visual documents will be exhibited, retracing the historical and architectural dimensions of this religious building.
This commemoration will also include the organization, Friday and Saturday, of an international conference under the theme “The values of peace and living together in the African context”, with the participation of a college of scholars and experts from Kingdom of Morocco, the Republic of Senegal and other African countries, we continued.
This scientific conference aspires, not only to highlight the role of shared religious values in the preservation of spiritual security and social cohesion, but also the depth of historical and spiritual relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Senegal, crossing the reigns of the late HM Mohammed V and the late HM Hassan II, may God rest their souls, culminating in that of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, President of the Foundation, concludes the press release.
