“During the summer, people are perhaps a little less concentrated. So, the Saguenay Police Department invites all its population and the population who will visit us to be vigilant, to pay attention to driving while impaired and to be diligent with people,” explains Hervé Berghella, from the Police Department. from Saguenay.

The Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) recently unveiled its road report for the summer of 2023. And it is a worrying report for the region.

Although in Quebec the number of road deaths during the summer decreased compared to the previous year, Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean sits at the top of the regions where there were the greatest numbers of deceased. A total of thirteen people lost their lives during this period, representing more than half of the number of road deaths over the summer.

“During this period, we must be extra careful to avoid distractions. We must share the road, we must be attentive. We must be attentive to others. We must use our eyes but also our ears,” emphasizes Simon Bourassa, spokesperson for CAA Quebec.

The latter also called for courtesy towards road users and particularly towards vulnerable users such as cyclists and motorcyclists.
