Since September 2023, the city of Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine) has granted more subsidies to associations that include women or non-binary people in their ranks. Around ten residents and two associations are asking the courts to cancel this deliberation. A hearing was held on Thursday June 27, 2024, at the Rennes administrative court.

Since September 18, 2024, the city of Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine) has adopted different criteria in the allocation of subsidies to sports associations. The new grid establishes gender categories (and no longer just sex), distinguishing between male, female and non-binary practitioners. They do not identify as men or women. This new scale grants more subsidies to associations which include women or non-binary people in their ranks. Some major clubs in the city, such as the Cercle Paul-Bert, were already carrying out this census.
