Since mid-June, tags have appeared on the walls of a squatted building on rue Paul-Bert in Périgueux. Visible from the street, these tags are insulting and local residents want the squat to be cleared so that this stops.

“Die rapist”, “Shit bag”, “We will have your skin”, “Dirty masculinist” Many tags adorn the walls of a building located at 58 rue Paul-Bert in Périgueux. They appeared on Friday June 21, were deleted by a local resident, before reappearing on Wednesday June 26. “We don’t want to leave this in plain sight, with children passing by,” breathes Kim Nguyen, an annoyed local resident. I have already covered the first tags and others have come back. We want to close the squat and condemn the building so that there are no more people and no more reason to have tags. »

There are many insults on the walls.

A petition launched

These tags denounce “serious facts”, admits Kim Nguyen, but he does not think that this is the right way to denounce them. “There are legal systems like the police or justice to punish these people. The effect is the opposite of what they want to have. » The latter therefore decided to launch a petition to close the squat and collected 70 signatures with residents from three streets around, “but given that it is a private place, we cannot do anything without the agreement of the owner of the building “.

Previous tags have been covered, but others have appeared.

Kim Nguyen therefore decided to cover these tags, but it exasperates him. “I am going to repaint and put up a poster to say that a squat closure procedure has been launched with the town hall and the authorities,” he confides. We’re not here to protect a rapist, but we can’t not react to all of this. » Once the procedure is launched, he also wants to bring graffiti artist friends to beautify the enclosure and prevent the return of tags.

The town hall has tried to contact the owner, without success so far.

Contacted, the Périgueux town hall announced that it had received a report Monday evening. She tried to contact the owner, without success, but should have authorization to clean the tags visible from the public highway. Taking place in a private domain, the town hall cannot file a complaint or intervene concerning the squats, but will inform the owner.
