a new carpool parking lot is created in Lunel

The new carpooling car park in Lunel has finally seen the light of day, the last June 14r, after 6 months of hard work. Born from a collaboration between VINCI Autoroutes and the Hérault Departmental Councilthe car park is located at the roundabout at the A9 motorway exit and supports the development of shared mobility.

Fight against self-isolationthis is also one of the challenges behind the commissioning of this new carpooling parking lot put into service in Lunel, a few days ago now. This new parking lot thus becomes the 55th in the network and offers 71 free parking spacesbringing the total number of places dedicated to carpooling on the network to 4,643 VINCI Autoroutes. The project, worth more than 452,000 euros, was co-financed by VINCI Autoroutes and the Hérault Department and is intended to be an integral part of shared mobility between Montpellier and Nîmes.

87.2% of motorists are alone in their vehicle

Developing carpooling is essential for the Department as well as VINCI Autoroutes. Indeed, in view of the fourth edition of the VINCI Autoroutes Autosolism Barometer, published in January 2024, which demonstrates that 87.2% of motorists are alone in their vehicle during the morning rush hour, between Lunel and Montpellier. In addition, on a national scale, these are 75% French people who travel alone to work by car. Thus, the alternative of carpooling will also make it possible to decarbonize everyday travel.
