After a 106-day strike that began on March 1, all cultural programming services and activities are resuming today in Quebec libraries.

Libraries will open their doors according to their usual schedule. Users will then be able to use the various services again.

Gathered in assembly on June 14, the members of the United Food and Commercial Workers union, local section 501, working at the Canadian Institute of Quebec, accepted in a proportion of 52% the overall offer of their employer thus ending the strike.

Several activities, under the theme “A summer in the universe”, will be held in establishments such as the Summer Reading Club for young people which begins today.

The club will be offered in the Gabrielle-Roy, Monique-Corriveau, Étienne-Parent and Félix-Leclerc libraries and starting July 2 in all libraries. The complete program is available by following this link: www.bibliothequedequebec.qc.ca/eteunivers.

Major works

Alongside the reopening of the libraries, major renovation work will be carried out over the coming months at the Paul-Aimé-Paiement library.

The library will remain open during most of the construction. Temporary closure periods are to be expected depending on the work schedule.

According to the City of Quebec, these interventions are necessary to ensure the integrity and sustainability of the building, while preserving the historic character of the section of the former Marist Brothers college, of which the library is a part.
