10 castles to visit around Paris

Some castles are located around thirty minutes from Paris, others over an hour depending on where you are. But they are all accessible very quickly by transport. To sunbathe, picnic, take a walk or simply visit an unusual place.

Castle of Versailles

The Palace of Versailles, built in the 17th century and commissioned by Louis XIV, the Sun King, is a dazzling symbol of monarchy and French architectural art. Originally a modest hunting lodge, it quickly became an immense palace complex for the royal family. The French gardens, designed by André Le Nôtre, and the sumptuous interiors, notably the famous Hall of Mirrors, the unrivaled taste of the time.

Mute Pavilion

The Pavillon de la Muette, located in the forest of Saint-Germain-en-Laye, was originally built as a hunting lodge under Louis XV. Designed by the architect Ange-Jacques Gabriel, it served as a place of rest and entertainment for the king and his court during their hunts. The pavilion is a typical example of neoclassical architecture, with elegant lines refining space. It was recently completely renovated by two real estate friends to restore the grandeur of this historic place.

Courances Castle

The Château de Courances, built in the 17th century, is famous for its French gardens which are among the most beautiful in the region. Located in Île-de-France, this estate is a model of Renaissance architecture, combining medieval and classical elements. Its gardens are incredibly flowery and green, making this place an exceptional heritage.
