• BMW today introduced the next-generation 2025 M5.

Last year, BMW presented the new generation of the 5 Series, a model which debuted for 2024. This year, it is the sporty M5 variant that we are entitled to, and the latter was unveiled yesterday by the Bavarian brand.

We are talking about the seventh generation for this vehicle, which for the first time adopts a plug-in hybrid configuration.

BMW M5 2025 – what’s new?

The new hybrid system combines a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with an electric motor integrated into the eight-speed automatic transmission. This configuration, similar to that of the BMW XM, brings the total power to 717 horsepower, which is better than the 627 horsepower of the M5 CS of the outgoing generation. Torque is at 738 lb-ft.

However, it should be noted that the additional weight required by hybrid technology means that the model tips the scales at 5,390 pounds, some 1,000 more than the replaced version. To compensate, BMW used plastic for the engine’s oil pan, among other things.

Despite this increase in weight, the level of performance remains impressive with a 0 to 100 km/h time of 3.5 seconds and a maximum speed of 250 km/h (305 km/h with the M Driver package). The V8 engine develops 577 horsepower, while the electric motor produces 194.

The lithium-ion battery, with a usable capacity of 14.8 kWh, offers an electric range of 40 km. On this point, it is disappointing.

The chassis of the M5 benefits from adaptive shock absorbers and a suspension specific to this version with double wishbones at the front and a multi-link system at the rear. The 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels feature powerful brakes with 16.1-inch front and 15.7-inch rear discs.

The all-wheel drive system is lighter and more efficient than that of the replaced model. And since we’re talking about a BMW sports car here, the configuration of said system gives priority to the rear wheels, for the driving sensation of a rear-wheel drive model. Moreover, a rear-wheel drive mode is available, as is a four-wheel drive sports car.
