After Alsace, the Olympic torch relay will embrace the heart of Lorraine. This Thursday, June 27, Moselle and its prefecture Metz will host the 42nd stage after a visit to Strasbourg the day before.

Seven segments will allow the day’s 152 porters to let the Olympic spirit shine. From 8:40 a.m., the Glassworks site in Meisenthal will shine at the international glass art center until 9 a.m.

Ten minutes later, Sarregueminesknown for its earthenware, will live under the light of the flame until 10:04 a.m. At precisely 11:18 a.m., it is Forbach and its Schlossberg castle, a 13th century building distinguished by its 30 m octagonal tower, which will welcome the cheers of the crowd until 12:09 p.m.

Direction Appach with a departure at 1:10 p.m. from its local Eiffel Tower. The flame will pass through the borders of Germany, Luxembourg and France which meet in this village. The arrival takes place at 1:30 p.m. at the Place des Etoiles.

At 2:57 p.m., the cities of Yutz and Thionville will experience ten minutes of madness. At 3:16 p.m., at Scy-Chazellesthe flame will illuminate the Robert Schuman house, residence of the man who was one of the founding fathers of Europe until 4:22 p.m.

The cauldron lighting festivities will then begin Metz at 4:49 p.m. at the Porte Serpenoise, whose construction dates back to the 19th century. The flame will pass through Place de la Comédie in the heart of the city center then through Place d’Armes, located between Saint-Étienne Cathedral and the Town Hall.

It is here that the collective relay in honor of table tennis will be dedicated, led by Jean-Philippe Gatien, double Olympic medalist and world champion. A not insignificant choice since Metz is a stronghold of French table tennis, particularly at the women’s level (winner of the European Cup, finalist of the Champions League and 5 times Pro A champions over the last 10 years).

The lighting of the cauldron will take place at 7:20 p.m. on Place de la République, the largest square in downtown Metz.
