A plumber working on the construction site of a house in Vienna, Austria, discovered 30 kg of old gold coins… by pulling on a rope.
On November 12, 2024, while workers were carrying out renovation work in the cellar of a house in Vienna (Austria), one of them noticed a rope stuck in the ground but decided to ignore it and not don’t touch it.

Who will get the big bucks?
The next day, a plumber working on the site also noticed the rope. Intrigued, he tries to pull on it, without success. He then takes a shovel to dig the ground and remove the rope. After a few minutes of work, he ended up coming across… a metal box filled with gold coins weighing around thirty kilos. Estimated value of the loot: 2.3 million euros.
“It’s truly incredible. I have worked on construction sites since I was 15 years old. From time to time, coins are found. But such a discovery is fabulous,” testifies Armin, a worker present on the site at the time of the discovery, to the Austrian media Today.
But then who will get the jackpot? Legally, it is a treasure, so according to the Austrian Civil Code, the person who found the chest must share the fortune with the owner of the house. The plumber could therefore receive more than a million euros, and not the one who first noticed the rope, who must now bite his fingers!
