Singer Cher released the first volume of her highly anticipated memoir this Tuesday, November 19. Memoirs in which she looks back on her past as an icon and her very brief marriage to the musician Gregg Allman.
At almost 80 years old, Cher has published the first volume of her memoirs. In this book of more than 400 pages, the interpreter of Believe looks back in complete privacy on his journey and his successes, but also on his personal setbacks. In particular his complicated childhood, spent in a religious home or his multiple and equally incredible romantic relationships.
After discussing her volcanic relationship with her first husband Sonny Bono, the singer gave details about her marriage to musician Gregg Allman, which lasted only nine days. “I didn’t know if my relationship with Gregory would last or not. I lived each day as it came,” she wrote in her work. “Then I found out I was pregnant, and we decided to get married.”

The marriage was then decided in haste, “in just a few hours” and the couple married in 1975, just four days after the divorce between Cher and Sonny Bono was finalized. “I was no longer Dear Bono but Dear Allman, Gregory's third wife,” she wrote, adding that there was “little romantic happening on his wedding day. There was no honeymoon.”
“A plastic bag filled with white powder”
And this marriage devoid of romance did not last long. A week after their union, the pop icon reportedly found a “plastic bag filled with white powder” in her husband’s belongings. If she had supported him in his addictions during their relationship, the upcoming arrival of their first baby was the reason for her wanting to break up and she filed for divorce the next day. After many separations and reunions, Cher gives him a final ultimatum before the arrival of their child.
“I told him on the phone, ‘I’m so tired of doing this, Gregory. I'm so tired of going to rehab with you,'” she recalls. “He was silent on the other end of the line.” The final separation decision came several months later, and the divorce was officially finalized in January 1979.
